How to Make a Presentation with AI (That Doesn’t Look Like AI)
October 25, 2026Grafista Team
To make a presentation with AI that doesn't look AI-generated, give the AI your own content and a real design to follow instead of a one-line prompt. In Grafista, an AI presentation maker, that takes three steps: add your text and images, pick a Brand Kit or Blueprint, and get a deck where every text box, image and shape stays editable. You don't need design skills or a carefully written prompt.
Presentations are one of the formats companies produce most. In a Nielsen study commissioned by empower, 1,102 office employees at German and US companies with 50+ staff created 12 presentations per month on average. Directors created 17. The same study found that 47% of those presentations did not follow the company's own design guidelines, and 37% of the time spent in PowerPoint went on formatting.
Piktochart's survey of 1,101 business professionals ranked presentations second among the visual formats companies create, behind social media graphics.
That is a lot of slides made by people who are not designers, under deadline, often for clients and investors. AI should take the design work off their plate without making every deck look like it came from the same machine.
Why prompts produce the same deck
A short prompt gives the model a topic, not a design. The model fills the gap with the most common layout it has seen, so "pitch deck for a SaaS startup" returns a title slide, three bullets and a stock photo in most AI presentation makers.
A better prompt means describing the layout, typography, hierarchy, colors and spacing of every slide. That takes longer than building the slides by hand, and it only works if you already know what a good slide looks like. Most people who make presentations at work are not designers and should not have to be.
Grafista removes the prompt from the process. You supply the content, and you point at a design you like instead of describing one. We covered the reasoning in How Grafista fights AI slop, and we saw the prompt problem first-hand when we gave Gamma and Canva AI the same 8-slide presentation prompt.
Step 1: Add or generate your content and images
Everything starts in the Text Editor, before any design decision. The deck is built around what you need to say, so this is where most of your time should go.
You have three ways to get text in:
- Write or paste it: Use this when the content already exists in your notes, a Google Doc or last quarter's deck.
- Import a document: AI document import pulls the text out of an existing file, so a report or a one-pager becomes slide content without copy-pasting.
- Generate it: Describe what the presentation covers and Grafista writes the text. You review and edit it before moving on.
Grafista reads the content and splits it into slides, but you get more control by marking the breaks yourself: put "Page 1", "Page 2" and so on above each slide's content. A presentation can have as many pages as it needs, and they all share the same design settings and export as one file.
Then add your own images (product screenshots, team photos, charts exported from your analytics tool). If you skip images and later pick a Blueprint built around photos, Grafista finds relevant images for you so no slide comes out empty.
Writing and editing in the Text Editor costs no credits. Credits are only spent when you generate text, import a document, generate designs use the editing Agent or publish designs online.

Step 2: Choose a size, Brand Kit, Blueprint or instructions
Click Choose design settings and decide how the deck looks. None of the options below require writing a prompt, and you can combine them.
Size: Pick the presentation preset (16:9) so every slide comes out in standard widescreen dimensions for a projector or PDF handout.
Brand Kit: A Brand Kit stores your logos, up to four colors, three fonts and written instructions. It is shared across everyone in your organization, so a deck made by sales uses the same colors and fonts as one made by marketing.
Blueprint: A Blueprint is a finished design from our library. Select one and Grafista applies its layout, typography, spacing and color logic to your content. It is not a template: nothing gets resized or forced into placeholder boxes, the design is generated from scratch around your text.
Brand Kit and Blueprint together: Select both and Grafista uses the Blueprint for layout and composition, and your Brand Kit for logos, colors and fonts. You get a design you could not have described in a prompt, in your own brand. Two people on your team can pick different Blueprints with the same Brand Kit and still produce decks that clearly come from the same company.
Instructions (optional): If you have a specific requirement, write it in plain language: "logo top left on every slide" or "dark backgrounds for the section dividers". This is where a prompt would go in other tools. In Grafista it is optional, and most decks need none.
Click Generate design.

Step 3: Get an editable presentation
The AI slides Grafista generates are not flattened images. Every text box, image, shape and decoration is a separate object you can change without regenerating the slide.
Small fixes are manual and free:
- Double-click any text box to retype it.
- Drag the side handles of a text box to control where a headline wraps.
- Change the color and transparency of any shape or decoration.
- Right-click an element to copy, duplicate, delete, bring it to front or send it to back.
For bigger changes, ask the Agent in plain language, for example "swap the photo on slide 4 for the team photo" or "make the pricing slide match the problem slide". If you don't like the result, click Undo. The editing guide covers every shortcut.
If you want to generate another design using a different Blueprint or Brand Kit, you can use the Design preferences modal from the left toolbar.
When the deck is ready, you have two options:
- Download it as a PDF or PNG.
- Publish it online and get a link, a QR code and an embed code. If you edit the deck later, click Republish and the link, QR code and embed show the new version. This is useful for a deck you send to investors or clients and keeps updating.

AI presentations you can make this way
The three steps stay the same for every deck. What changes is the content you prepare in Step 1 and the settings you pick in Step 2.
Startup pitch decks
Investors expect a familiar order. Sequoia's widely used outline in Writing a Business Plan has 10 sections: company purpose, problem, solution, why now, market size, competition, product, business model, team and financials. Write each one under its own "Page" label in the Text Editor and the deck structure is done before you touch design.
- Put real numbers on the market size, traction and financials pages. Investors skip slides that describe growth without figures.
- Upload product screenshots for the product page instead of relying on generated images.
- Publish the deck rather than emailing a PDF. When your metrics change, Republish, and every investor who has the link sees the current version.
Early-stage teams can apply to our startup program for 50% off any plan for the first 3 months.
Company sales presentations
Sales decks leave the building. In the empower study, 57% of employees shared presentations with external parties regularly, and 46% of sales presentations did not follow brand guidelines. A shared Brand Kit fixes the second number for every rep at once.
- Structure: the customer's problem, your solution, one case study with a measured result, pricing, next step.
- Keep one master version and, for each prospect, change only the case study and the company name by hand.
- Use the Agent for per-client tweaks, such as "add the client logo next to ours on the title slide".
Quarterly reports and business reviews
Reports repeat every quarter with new numbers and the same structure. Keep last quarter's document, update the figures in the Text Editor and generate again with the same Blueprint and Brand Kit, so the new deck matches the old one.
- One metric per page with a one-line explanation of why it moved.
- Import the written report with AI document import instead of retyping it.
Client proposals for agencies
Agencies present to many clients, each with its own brand. Every Grafista plan includes unlimited Brand Kits, so you keep one per client and switch between them in Step 2. A proposal for one client and a pitch to another can share the same Blueprint and still look like two different companies made them.
Training and onboarding decks
HR and team leads produce a lot of these. The empower study counted 14 presentations per month in HR departments. Import the existing handbook or process document, label one topic per page and generate. When a process changes, edit the text box and Republish the onboarding link.
Conference talks and webinars
Speaker decks need fewer words and larger visuals than a deck that gets read. Keep each page to a headline and one image, and choose a Blueprint with full-bleed photos. Publish the deck and put the QR code on your last slide so the audience can open it on their phones.
