Grafista vs Canva: Which graphic design tool is better?

Canva and Grafista solve the same problem but for very different users.

Canva is for those that want to create a design from scratch, but it’s much easier to learn master than professional design software like Photoshop. It also offers templates which you can reshape to fit your text, your logo, and your photos.

Grafista focuses on non-designers and uses AI models to generate designs that are built around your content. It converts your content into editable designs that dont look like AI slop in minutes, without the need for manual work, design knowledge or advance prompt skills.

If you want the lowest cost per design and the fastest path from raw content to a finished flyer, menu, or brochure, Grafista usually wins. If you want the largest template and stock library, plus built-in photo and video editing, Canva is the safer default. Below, we break down exactly where each tool pulls ahead.

Quick verdict

• Cheapest for teams: Grafista, since unlimited team members and unlimited brand kits are included on every paid plan, including the €10/month tier
• Bigger library: Canva, by a wide margin, thanks to over a decade of templates and stock assets
• Best for long, content-heavy designs (brochures, CVs, multi-page menus): Grafista, because the design builds around your text instead of the other way around
• Best for photo and video work: Canva, which includes a full photo editor, video editor, and stock media library Grafista doesn't try to compete with
• Cheapest way to scale AI generation: Grafista, since credits are built into every plan; Canva's heavy AI use requires a separate $100/month AI Pass add-on
• Best free plan for testing: Grafista, since the free tier needs no credit card and includes 300 one-time credits to try the full workflow

What is Grafista?

Grafista is an AI graphic design platform built for people who have zero design background and don't want to learn prompt engineering to get a good result. You write or upload your content into a simple editor, choose your design settings, and Grafista generates an editable design around it, handling font pairing, layout, spacing, and composition automatically.

The core differentiator is Blueprints. Instead of hunting through a template library and reshaping it to fit your content, you pick a Blueprint (a design whose style you like) and Grafista applies that style to your own text and images. It's like pointing at a design and saying "make mine look like that." This also helps sidestep the generic, same-looking output that plagues most AI design tools. You can also use brand kits to ensure consistency across your designs. Finally, generated designs are fully editable either manually or via an editing Agent.

Every paid plan, starting at €10/month, includes unlimited brand kits, unlimited team members, and built-in publishing, so a finished design can go live as a shareable page with its own QR code.

What is Canva?

Canva launched in 2013 as a browser-based drag-and-drop tool built around templates, and that foundation is still what most people know it for. Pick a template, swap in your text and photos, and you have a design in minutes, as long as your content roughly fits the shape of the template.

Canva's AI layer, now branded Canva AI, adds tools like Magic Write for copy, Magic Edit and Magic Eraser for photo cleanup, and a newer conversational mode called Canva AI 2.0 that can build a layered design from a plain-language request and connect to tools like Slack, Gmail, and Google Drive. Canva's biggest strength is still its scale: a massive template library, a deep stock photo and video catalog, and a genuinely capable photo editor built into the same subscription.

Grafista vs Canva: head-to-head

Ease of use for non-designers

Canva lowers the skill floor by giving you a finished layout to start from, but you still have to make it fit your content, which means resizing text boxes, swapping images, and fixing spacing every time your headline runs long or your logo is the wrong shape for its slot.

Grafista removes that step entirely. Because the design is generated around your actual text and images from the start, there's no manual resizing or reflowing. You're not editing someone else's layout to fit your content, the layout is built for it.

Blueprints vs templates

This is the real philosophical difference between the two tools. A Canva template is a fixed starting point you reshape by hand. A Grafista Blueprint is a style you apply, and the platform does the reshaping for you based on the amount of text and images you actually have.

For short content like a single social post, the gap is small. For anything longer, a company brochure, a multi-item menu, a two-page flyer, the gap gets large fast, since Grafista can rebuild the layout around however much content you give it without you touching a single text box.

Branding and brand kits

Both platforms support brand kits with your logo, colors, and fonts applied automatically. The difference is where that feature sits in the pricing. Grafista includes unlimited brand kits on every paid plan starting at €10/month. Canva includes brand kits too, but full brand controls and shared brand libraries are reserved for the €17/month Business tier and up.

Team collaboration and pricing

If your business involves more than one person touching designs, this is where the cost gap widens. Grafista includes unlimited team members on every paid plan, even the cheapest one. Canva's free and Pro tiers are built for individuals, and real team features like shared workspaces don't unlock until Business.

AI generation and how far your money goes

Grafista's credits cover generation, document imports, AI-assisted edits, and publishing, and they scale up as you move through the Basic, Pro, and Ultra plans. Canva bundles a baseline AI allowance into its regular plans, but once you exceed it, the only way to keep generating is the AI Pass add-on at $100 per person per month, on top of whatever plan you're already paying for. For teams that lean on AI regularly, that math adds up quickly.

Publishing and sharing

Both Grafista and Canva let you publish a finished design as a live page directly from their platforms, complete with a QR code and shareable link that stays the same even after you update the design.

Library size and maturity

Canva has over a decade of templates, stock photos, fonts, and icons behind it, and that scale is real. If you want to browse thousands of options before settling on a look, Canva's library is hard to beat. Grafista's Blueprint library is newer and smaller by comparison, though it grows continuously as users publish their own designs, and it's built to matter less, since Blueprints do the adaptation work a Canva template can't.

Photo and video editing

Canva includes a genuine photo editor, background remover, and video editing tools inside the same subscription. Grafista is focused on layout and text-driven design, not pixel-level photo retouching, so if photo editing is a big part of your workflow, Canva covers more ground in one place.

Pricing side by side

Mid tier	€18/month, 2,000 credits	€17/month per person, 20x free AI allowance, brand controls
Top tier	€72/month, 10,000 credits	Enterprise, custom pricing

Which one should you choose?

If you're a small business, founder, or non-designer who regularly needs flyers, menus, brochures, or social graphics and wants to spend less time formatting and less money on tools, Grafista is built for exactly that.

If you're already deep into Canva's ecosystem for stock photos, video editing, or a huge template catalog, and your team is fine paying per seat for AI and brand features, Canva still makes sense as an all-in-one subscription.

If your priority is team collaboration on a budget, Grafista pulls ahead clearly, since unlimited members and brand kits come standard on the cheapest plan instead of being locked behind a higher tier.

Can Grafista replace Canva?

Grafista, if budget matters, since unlimited team members and brand kits are included from the cheapest paid plan. Canva reserves team features for its Business tier.

Can I use my own brand kit in both tools?
Yes. Both platforms support custom brand kits with logos, colors, and fonts. Grafista includes this on every paid plan, while Canva's full brand controls require the Business tier.

Which tool is better for someone with zero design experience?
Grafista, since Blueprints remove the need to write detailed prompts or manually adjust a template. You pick a style you like and Grafista adapts it to your content automatically.
